What I hear about the difficulties with the city of Alicante to give compulsory license to the civic committee for the recovery of historical memory to install three memorials in that beautiful city fills me with sorrow and reflection inspires me.
because in these years that it has recalled the LXX anniversary of the civil war, the great divide of history and contemporary English society, local authorities do not seem willing to Alicante is not even minimally honor victims because they were innocent (of the bombing) or defeated soldiers.
reflection because it is symptomatic of a mood and a certain ignorance of the past. As regards the former, perhaps the City do you think that in a democratic regime one day erase the memory of the years of lead and revenge? And in regard to the latter, do you think perhaps the City Council that historians do not clarify the meaning of that fratricidal conflict last?, what history we are building will not dismount the myths propagated by the victors and what does not ever support the view that Franco managed to delay and extend the war to kill "reds" and tamed his generals, even if the cost of countless victims of their own side?
Alicante City Council seems to forget that the gospel truth makes free. Also that historians do not often talking down to those who impede their knowledge.
